February 2014 – Byron Shiner

On January 29, 2014 as part of the Students Exploring Through Mentoring program, (SET) Byron Shiner of King’s Point spent the day with MHA Kevin Pollard, the Member of the House of Assembly for the Baie-Verte, Springdale region and the SET Mentoring Coordinator Micheal Hunter. Byron has been involved with many local organizations over the years and was very excited to explore what Springdale had to offer alongside the MHA.

Throughout the day MHA Pollard and Byron visited a variety of businesses to explore the opportunities for employment in the Springdale vicinity. The areas of focus were on the interests that Byron had expressed. Byron’s interests were varied from retail stores, to his favorite activity, music.

Together they explored retail and manufacturing facilities, a mineral testing plant, a recording studio in the area and throughout the day Byron showed great interest in many of the businesses visited.

Both Mr. Pollard and Byron expressed that the day was very successful in exploring the available opportunities. Byron and the SET mentoring program, Newfoundland and Labrador Association for Community Living are thankful to MHA Pollard for his time.
